Delhi Mumbai Expressway has various features to make it a sustainable infrastructure. Some of them are mentioned below.

Wayside Amenities
As per the plan, various wayside amenities will be installed on Delhi Mumbai Expressway at almost 93 places.
It will cover hotels, food courts, retail shops, ATMs, fuel stations, and electric vehicle charging stations.
This expressway is the first one in India to have helipads. It will also have well-serviced trauma centers at every distance of 100 km for the safety of accident victims.

Electric Highway
In March 2021, Nitin Gadkari clarified about making Delhi Mumbai Expressway an e-Highway i.e. electric highway.
The speed limit for trucks and buses will be around 120 km/hr. This will help us to minimize the cost of logistics by 70 %. This will be possible as huge vehicles will run using electricity instead of diesel.

Environment-Friendly
Delhi Mumbai Expressway will be built as environment-friendly. As it will have a tree cover of around 20 lakh trees. A drip irrigation process will be used to water those plants.
A rainwater harvesting system will be installed every 500m.
State grids and solar energy will be mixed as power supply sources for lighting the expressway during the night.

Wildlife Crossings
This bridge will be the first one in India to have animal bridges.
Animal bridges are mainly built for the safety of wildlife from this infrastructure.
Five animal bridges are built and the combined length will be around 2.5 km. It passes through Mukundra wildlife sanctuaries and the Ranthambore wildlife corridor in Rajasthan.

Delhi Mumbai Expressway Construction Plan
Delhi Mumbai Expressway is almost 1350 km long. This expressway is separated into four sections.
The expressway construction plan is divided into 52 construction packages. Whereas the length of each such tender is around 8 km to 46 km.

Delhi Mumbai Expressway Route
The Delhi Mumbai expressway route is separated into 4 sections and it passes through various states. The below-given are the section-wise route alignment.
Section I –
DND to Faridabad to KMP Route | Delhi – 9 km
Haryana – 50 km Total – 59 km |
This expressway starts from the DND flyway located in Delhi.
Later it follows the way through Shaheen Bagh, Kalindi Kunj, and Okhla.
Sohna place of Haryana is the entry/exit way.
The traffic from this way will connect Haryana’s KMP expressway to follow the route towards Vadodara
Section II –
Sohna to KMP to Vadodara Route | Haryana – 79 km
Rajasthan – 373 km Madhya Pradesh – 244 km Gujarat – 149 km Total – 845 km |
Section 2 of this expressway covers some places of Haryana.
Those places are Alipur, Sancholi village, Sohna, Bhirawati, Khalilpur, Naurangabad, Ujina, Bhadas, Pinangwan, and Kolgaon.
Later route goes through Rajasthan state. It covers places like Naugaon village, Dausa, Lalsot, Indragarh, Rawatbhata, and Kota.
Further passing through the Madhya-Pradesh, it covers places like Bhanupura, Garoth, Sitamau, Jaora, Ratlam, and Thandla.
And later route flows through Gujarat. It covers places like Chhayan, Dahod, Godhra, Dodka, and Vadodara.
Section III –
Vadodara to Virar Route | Gujarat – 277 km
Maharashtra – 79 km Total – 356 km |
Section 3 covers the route through Gujarat.
In Gujarat, the route passes through Dodka, Fajapur, Samiyal, Laxmipura, Dehgam, Moti Naroli, Navsari, and Valsad.
Later the route goes through some places at the Maharashtra-Gujarat border and Virar & Palgarh.
Section IV –
Virar to JNPT Route | Maharashtra – 92 km
Total – 92 km |
Section 4 route passes through Maharashtra.
The route covers places like Virar, Badlapur, and Amane.
The expressway route ends at JNPT place in Mumbai.
And this part of Mumbai is well developed in the aspect of real estate.

Delhi Mumbai Expressway Current Status
The below-mentioned is the current status of the expressway.
- Delhi Mumbai Expressway will get linked to the future project of Noida International Airpot at Jewar. And it will next be connected to the Faridabad-Ballabgarh bypass and DND flyway.
- The Chennai Surat Expressway is been proposed to the Road & Transport Ministry for the future. And it got approved as well. In the future, this expressway will get linked to Delhi Mumbai Expressway at Surat.
- As per NHAI officials, the Delhi Vadodara section of this expressway was expected to be completed by December 2022. But now it is said to be completed in the coming months.

Delhi Mumbai Expressway Completion Date
Delhi Mumbai Expressway links to 6 states which are Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, & Maharashtra.
The foundation stone for this expressway was laid by Nitin Gadkari on March 2019.
Initially, the completion date for this project was set to 2020. Later it got postponed to January 2023.
And now the latest deadline for the Delhi Mumbai Expressway completion is set for December 2024.
