Samruddhi Mahamarg Concept
Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg (HHBTMSM) is built to accelerate development in business and industrialisation. And mainly for Aurangabad, Nagpur, Nashik, and other districts.
With the intention of socio-economic growth, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has planned this project for the following:

Agriculture & Allied Activities
This project aims to develop an agroecosystem for the population living in the respective region across the roadway. This intention will allow them to continue agriculture as their primary occupation.
The plan to create easy-to-export infrastructure, food markets, and food processing zones will be proven to boost farmers’ income and enhance their quality of life.

New Township & Industrial Hub
The corridor of Samruddhi Mahamarg will enhance the remote region by developing 18 new townships.
To generate new employment opportunities and limit migration issues, industrial hubs, manufacturing units, IT parks, training institutes, etc are also planned.

Logistics and Warehousing Hubs
For an effortless process of storing and logistic movements, warehousing hubs will be implanted close to manufacturing and industrial units.
Bus bays and truck terminals will be there to support freight forwarding and supply chain processes for domestic markets.
State Warehousing Corporation has agreed to develop new townships in the districts of Buldhana, Wardha, and Aurangabad.

The government came to know that over the route of Samruddhi Mahamarg, tourism and hospitality services will seek growth.
Wildlife resorts, tiger safaris, museums, food plazas, restaurants, etc., will be interlinked with the Samruddhi Mahamarg routeways.

Samruddhi Mahamarg Purpose
The excellence in the aspects of road connectivity and transport facilities in Maharashtra is well-known to Indians.
This is because of the strategy to connect villages to cities and major metropolitan areas.
Rural roads, urban roads, major district roads, state highways, national highways, etc, are all interlinked to enhance road connectivity.
Previously built, the Mumbai-Pune expressway has proved a success as it helped in the economic aspects of the state.
Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad, Nashik, and Nagpur cities are the significant ones to lead the economy of the state.
And with the same intention, Samruddhi Mahamarg was been initiated. Whereas, the core purposes are:

Seamless Journey
Mumbai being the capital, and Nagpur being a sub-capital of Maharashtra are the fastest-growing metropolitan cities.
Samruddhi Mahamarg is the roadway connecting these two cities
Over the completion of this project, the duration to travel between Mumbai and Nagpur will be decreased from 16 hrs to 8 hrs.

Connectivity to 24 Districts
Samruddhi Mahamarg Route will lead through 10 main districts. Such as Nagpur, Amravati, Wardha, Buldana, Washim, Aurangabad, Jalna, Ahmednagar, Thane, and Nashik.
Whereas interlinking will indirectly connect to 14 districts. Out of 36 districts of Maharashtra, 24 districts will get benefited from Samruddhi Mahamarg.

Balance between Growth and Sustainable Environment
During the planning of this expressway, environmental protection and wildlife conservation were kept in the primary position.
As this expressway will lead through eco-sensitive areas, wildlife movement is carefully provisioned and planned as per that.

New Forest Landscape
The government has acquired around 546 hectares of land for Samruddhi Mahamarg.
It is estimated that up to 2.36 lakh trees will be affected by the construction of this expressway. So, 11.31 lakh new trees will be planted along the expressway.

E-charging Station for Fast Travel
The government has planned to add roadside amenities over both sides of the expressway. It will be implanted at a distance of 40-50 km on each of the sides.
One of the essential amenities is the charging station for the fast movement of electric vehicles.
A road tax collecting system, an optical fiber cable, and an intelligent traffic management system will also be implanted.

Samruddhi Mahamarg Current Status
In April 2022, the opening of Samruddhi Mahamarg was delayed due to the damage of the wildlife overpass near Nagpur city.
In the same month, the expressway’s both Phase 1 and Phase 2 were planned to open by August.
In July 2022, the initial part of the 520 km Nagpur and Shirdi was planned to be inaugurated on 15 August 2022. But this inauguration also got delayed.
On 11 December 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the expressway, which was between Nagpur and Shirdi.
Whereas, the second phase of the expressway is still pending due to incomplete construction work.

Samruddhi Mahamarg Completion Date
Samruddhi Mahamarg’s construction work is been divided into two phases. The first phase is already completed. Only the second phase is left to construct which is from Shirdi to Mumbai.
The second phase and the overall construction of Samruddhi Mahamarg are planned to be completed by March 2025.
