PM, Narendra Modi officially opened two parts of Pune Metro’s Phase 1 project, totalling 10.35 kilometres, making it the country’s fifteenth operational metro system on 6 March 2022.
The construction of this project started in 2016.
MahaMetro operations started on its 6 km Initial Section between the locality PCMC – Phugewadi on the 16.59 km Purple Line (PCMC – Swargate) with 5 expanded stations at PCMC, Bhosari, Tukaram Nagar, Kasarwadi, and Phugewadi and Line between Vanaz – Garware College on the 14.665 km of Aqua Line route (Vanaz – Ramwadi), which has 5 stops at Vanaz, Anand Nagar, Nal Stop, Ideal Colony and Garware College.
Pune Metro Phase 2 project’s specific project plan (DPR) has not been published yet but is anticipated to include new corridors and expansions of existing metro routes to Katraj, Kharadi, Chandni Chowk, Hadapsar, Katraj, Loni Kalbhor, Warje, Khadakwasla.
B. Pune Ring Road Project
The construction of the Pune Ring Road would improve the road network surrounding the city.
The PMRDA authorities made it clear that roadway connectivity will contribute to traffic reduction. and make it simple to reach the regions with the quickest growth.
Almost 128 kilometres will make up this ring road.
Additionally, by connecting to the main highways nearby the city, it will be connected to 29 villages.
The top vehicle speed on this eight-lane motorway will be 120 km/h.

Phase 4

D. Pune Airport Expansion Project

Previously the New airport construction was proposed in Pune City.
Development on the new airport began in August 2004 after locations close to Talegaon Dabhade and Saswad were chosen for the project.
Later, locations close to Chakan and Rajgurunagar were thought about.
Due to residents’ objections, the location was shifted to Purandar tehsil in 2015.
A revised proposal with a different location was presented to the Centre for approval following opposition from a group of farmers who owned the property at the intended site.
Central has decided afterwards to expand the existing airport and the decision on the new airport is yet to be finalised.
