The Municipal Corporation Panvel City (PCMC) has finally received approval from the state & central government for essential infrastructure projects, such as improving the drinking water supply and developing a sewerage system, valued at Rs 355.7 crores. This comes as a boost for PCMC after a long wait, as the funds will be provided in accordance with the expansive Atal Missions for Rejuvenation & Urban Transition (AMRUT) 2.0 plan.
Ganesh Deshmukh, the PCMC commissioner & administrator who spearheaded the drive to improve civic amenities for the underserved communities in civic body bounds, announced this development.
Up to 29 villages and 23 panchayats under the control of the civic body will soon be connected to the pipeline water supply scheme, sewage infrastructure, and treatment plants after lacking a clean water facility & sewage connections since the corporation was established in 2016. The Amrit 2.0 programme of 2021–2022, sponsored by the central government, has finally received state approval.
The massive infrastructure project is scheduled to be completed in about two years. To serve settlements with water around the clock, over 10 kilometres of water connection will be installed.
Furthermore, under this plan, up to 44 storage tanks for water would be built. Water will be provided by the Patalganga river in the vicinity of Rasayni. After following the state’s instructions and the centre, Deshmukh and his colleagues were able to secure administrative approval for both projects.
Deshmukh predicted that the tendering process would start soon. According to government directives, the sewage system must be finished in 24 months and water should be available at the tap within the next 18 months.
The Amrut plan includes the revitalization of lakes and the development of green spaces. The people would be able to enjoy continuous water access and better sanitation on a level with their neighbours in nodal areas after both projects are finished, according to Deshmukh.
