Metro lines 2A and 7’s second phase will soon be operational, according to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). Dahanukarwadi in Kandivali is connected to DN Nagar by line 2A, and Aarey Road is linked to the Andheri Highway by line 7.
The MMRDA will use lines 2A and 7 for a 16-hour mega block on January 8 between 6 am and 10 pm to test integrated signalling systems and combine the initial phase of metro lines with the 2nd phase.
The MMRDA stated in a release on Friday that all civil construction in addition to system upgrades for both metro lines had been finished. It claimed that once both lines are fully functioning, traffic on the roads will decrease.
According to SVR Srinivas, metropolitan commissioner of MMRDA, “the entire civil construction and the system operations of the metro lines have been done and soon the 2nd phase of the metro 2A & 7 would be in service of Mumbaikars.”
According to him, the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar segment of the Mumbai metro will be connected with these lines via the city’s first metro corridor.
The 9.5 km-long section of the 18.6 km-long 2A corridor connecting Dahisar east and DN Nagar (Yellow Line) that runs from Dahisar east through Dahanukarwadi will be operational starting in April 2022. The Red Line, a 16.5 km metro section between Dahisar (east) and Andheri High, is also active for its 9.75 km length between Dahisar (east) and Aarey Colony.
The general public won’t be able to use the subway within the mega block time.
“Systems like the public address system, the passenger data display system, and the rolling stock will all be subjected to comprehensive integrated testing along with signalling, communication, and PSD systems. Throughout the block period, the system’s reliability and commuter safety will be examined “, they stated.
